Things to remember when packing and moving

Before moving, discard unwanted items. You probably don't need something if you haven't used it in over a year and it's not a family heirloom. Donate or sell it at a garage sale. It makes no sense to pay us to move goods you won't utilize.
Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any queries or concerns. Throughout the entire moving process, keep a copy of all pertinent papers (such as the estimate, confirmation, etc.) with you in case you need to refer to it.
Keep your boxes manageable and light. Take care not to fill the boxes to the brim. If you find it difficult to lift the carton, it is too heavy! Limit the weight of each box to no more than 50 pounds.
Use the proper cartons when you're packaging. This will greatly increase the likelihood that your things will arrive safely. Please be advised that plastic garbage bags are never the right cartons.
When you are packing your boxes, use the proper padding. Don't skimp on bubble wrap or packing paper. When in doubt, use more cushion than less, is the general rule.
Vertically packing dishes requires barrels. Never box dishes. One dish pack should contain four place settings. If the box has more, there's insufficient cushioning.
Avoid placing delicate products in the same carton as bulky or heavy ones.
Your boxes should be labeled with each room's name. This will make unloading faster. To quickly unpack and find essentials in your new home, make an inventory of each box's contents.
Take your essential prescriptions and valuables with you. These goods are not the mover's responsibility.
When packing, label the box's contents and its new room. Each room needs a "open first" box. This box may contain bed linens, toiletries, tissues, first aid items, etc. For the kitchen, pack a coffee maker, coffee supplies, soft drinks, water, first night's dinner plates and utensils, etc.
Put unpackable items in a closet or spare bathroom. Valuables, plants, pets, etc. This area is off-limits since it has your stuff. Make sure movers know which items to transfer. Smooth transfers require clear communication.
Make alternate plans for kids and pets on moving day. You and the movers should offer each other complete attention throughout the relocation. Little ones and dogs should avoid moving day if possible.
Keep your phone service at the old location active until the relocation is accomplished completely. It can be crucial that you communicate openly with your mover and everyone else.
Turn off gas, electric, cable, newspaper, phone, etc. at the origin and on at the destination. If possible, overlap these dates in case the move date changes. Ensure the post office knows where to send your mail.
